Digital Distribution Plan

After researching both traditional distribution methods and digital distribution methods, I have decided that both are necessary for the success of my magazine. By creating a mobile app, website, and incorporating social media, I can effectively distribute my magazine to my target audience. For traditional distribution methods, I will hire a local distribution company to help distribute print copies of Florida’s Terrain. The distribution agency will deliver to local stores, waiting rooms, and supermarkets. Allowing my print copy to be placed on shelves of supermarkets increases their likelihood of being seen by a shopping customer. A distribution company such as,  South Florida Premium Distribution , will used to deliver the issues across Florida. For digital distribution methods, I would create an app called “Florida’s Terrain”, which would include separate sections of varying topics on wildlife for a broad age group. The app will notify users about updated articles and issu...

Digital Distribution Research: Australian Geographic

Australian Geographic is one of the environmental magazines that I researched with similar target audience as my own magazine. Due to their focus on a specific geological area, learning their digital and traditional distribution technique will be very beneficial to my magazine’s success. One way they distribute their magazine online is through a website, https://www.australiangeographic.com, which offers a 28-day free trial period for any new visitors to their cite. The trial period shows their prospective customers the value of being a permanent subscription member. The website also includes newsletters that allows the magazine to distribute their published work through email and notifies the readers on new issues released. Australian Geographic’s website has a feature that separates their content and issues depending on age and topic, so if a viewer was interested in ‘science’, they can click a link that sends them directly to a magazine on that topic. This design is user friend...

Digital Distribution Research: National Wildlife

National Wildlife Federation offers various options to access their published magazines online. Similar to National Geographic, National Wildlife also has a website which advertises yearly subscriptions for their magazines. Each subscription is separated by age groups. For example, an audience between the age of 7-12 are given the “Ranger Rick” package which includes animal stories, beautiful photos and puzzles, while the “National Wildlife” package offers an older audience in-depth articles about wildlife. The variety of packages broadens the demographic of the audience and increases the magazines readership. Moreover, National Wildlife has an app that contains updated publications of their magazines with bi-weekly newsletter of new fundraisers and events. Additionally, the app allows subscription users to enjoy a single issue or an entire year of in-depth articles of wildlife, gardening tips and professional photographs of nature. The app is simple to sign up to, only askin...

The app gives you unlimited access to National Geographic archive. The app is available to all mobile device and services including Android, iPhone, iPad, NOOK, and Kindle. Revision #2

The table of contents didn’t have any significant changes. I removed the yellow boarder around the page since the two-article page will also have no boarders; creating similar design theme will boost the magazine aesthetic. It also increases the professional look of the page. Additionally, I revise the photographs on the page. Previously the contents page had a zoomed-out photo of the orange flower, but I decided to use a close-up photo to accentuate the color of the flower. The photo now brightens the page significantly. Moreover, I removed the image of the low angle shot of the tree because it didn’t portray a specific location, so I replaced it with a photo of a sitting area at Oscar Scherer State Park. I also added the magazine edition below “Florida’s Terrain” to make the magazine feel more professional. The font color of “Features” was change to orange to complement the flower photograph.  I also made sure that on the contents page to remove the hyphens on text.  Lastl...

Revision #3

The first article page had a few edits added. I changed the photo of the mangroves at the lower half of the page because it was slightly murky and dark. The new image is color corrected to have a warm undertone so that it contrasts with the sharp colors of the main image. The new image was placed in the middle of the page, so it smoothly wraps around the surrounding text. Additionally, I changed the font of the page and bold the subheadings. This allows for each section of the article to be noticed. I also added a website link and page number (in the same font as the contents page) at the bottom of the page. I used InDesign to edit my first and second article page, so the boarders of the page are symmetrical to each other. Before (1st Article Page):  After (1st Article Page):  The second article page had the least number of edits added to it. Of course, the website link and page number were added to the bottom of the page. The font changed to a similar f...

Traditional Distribution Research

When distributing my product, the use of traditional distribution model allows for an increase circulation and sales of my magazines print copies. The traditional model of distribution illustrates the relationship between the manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer and the consumer. The manufacturer mass-produces the printed copies of your magazines so that they are ready to be distributed to the costumers. Financial cost of packaging, mailing and shipping is handled at this stage of the distribution model. The wholesaler and retailer determine where to distribute the printed copies, places such as supermarkets, waiting rooms, and storefronts are considered prime places to sell printed magazine copies. The magazine company can also offer weekly subscriptions to costumers, which allows for printed copies to be delivered to their front door or mailbox. These outlets boost print magazine sales; however, the magazine company needs to consider hiring a distribution company to help manage and...

Revision #1

The cover page has the most significant changes. I decided to change the font of all the text on the page. The title font looks sleeker and cleaner with the negative space surrounded by a white outline. Publisher was restrictive on the placement of certain text and I found it easier on InDesign. InDesign had higher mechanics which allows me to increase the width and length of the text, so it fills the page correctly. The title was stretched to optimize the top of the cover page. I also adjusted the position of the text so that it becomes more visible against the bark. When the text was placed over the leavers and shrubbery it camouflaged against the background, so I moved it to the right side of cover page, fixing the error. I also removed one of the articles from the lower position of the cover page and replace it with a website link. This encourages promotion of the cite by advertising to the reader.  I also made sure that on the cover page to remove the hyphens on text Befo...

Marketing Plan

After careful consideration I decided to market my magazine through promotional events, fundraisers and social media, since all the magazines I have researched, marketed as such. These marketing techniques will allow for a direct connection to my audience and will be beneficial at garnering a broader audience. Online Advertisements Online advertisements will include discounts on subscriptions and print magazines. These will be placed on social media cites and any frequently used websites such as YouTube. The online advertisements include banners that are bright with different fonts used to make the banner more noticeable. Promotional Events Similar to National Geographic, Australian Geographic, and National Wildlife, promotional events will be used to market my magazine. Correlating with the current magazine theme, I will host a promotional presentation that will gather loyal followers for an afternoon event. The event will be hosted by renowned guess speakers, who stud...
