Due to the color of the background, the addition of a solid dark yellow bar at the bottom of the age made the black text visible. The headline had to be shifted up so that it was more noticeable against the brown bark. I changed the headline yellow to make it pop against the other colors of the cover photo. The magazine name font changed for stylistic preferences. The photo was chosen because of the attractive color scheme. The red plant is directly centered drawing the gaze to the cover of the magazine.  I made little changes to the layout of the contents page. The only changes made were in font choices and the color of the border. I mainly focus on picking photos from the various location visited to place in the contents section. I choose photos that contrasted each other and added color to the page. I also added an arrow next to the word “contents”, so that the word stood out more. One of my articles will contain an interview with a volunteer of Florida’s local preserves. The question would mainly ask the benefits of volunteering at local parks and preserves, and how others can volunteer. My magazine is aimed towards older adults and recreational organizations. Since my mother's company is connected to various national parks, my interview will be with Mrs. Barry. Due to her work, she often volunteers for local preserves and parks. The interview would occur December 18 th due to correlating schedules.  Questions: 1.       “How do you believe people can stay connected to their community?” 2.       “Do you think more mangroves should be placed along Florida’s coast?” 3.       “Why does your company volunteer their time towards Florida’s preserves?” 4.       “Should more companies get involved in their community's parks and preserves?” 5.   ...

I decided for the shooting location, I would travel to three different Florida preserves: Lido Shores, Red Bug Slough Preserve, and Oscar Scherer State Park. The sceneries at each park is beautiful in the late afternoon and the natural lighting from the sun provides a peaceful atmosphere to photograph. I called multiple preserves in Sarasota, but some were either too far or too expensive for admissions. The preserves chosen were near each other and easily accessible. Only one of the preserves required an entry fee of $5, while the rest were free admissions. The preserves allowed me to take tracks close to the vegetation and river allowing for closer photos of the objects. The scenery of the preserves was changing along the tracks, so this provided a variety of backgrounds to photograph. The title page has gone through changes throughout the edits of the cover. The focus of my magazine will be on Florida’s natural environment and the various ecosystems located across the state. The title of my magazine reflects the focus of the articles within. Florida’s Terrain is simple and memorable, which will help with the possible retail of the magazine. My inspiration of design template of the cover magazine primarily came from national wildlife and Australian geographic magazine template. Both magazines incorporated a large simple-to-read font at the top of the page. The Bookman Old Style is a large and basic font that I will be centering at the top of the cover page. The headline of the magazine will be located half-way down the page with a bold font in Bodoni MT Black to draw attention to the cover. Most of the pictures are located on the top half of the page. The pictures will be slightly mis-aligned for creative interest of the page and the table of contents will have three photographs from different locations chosen from the photo shoots. Each picture will be from Lido Shores, Red Bug Slough Preserve, and Oscar Scherer State Park. This gives the viewers insight on the contents of the articles inside the magazine. The articles listed at the bottom half of the page will be the main articles for the magazine. The listed articles contain the page number in Britannic Bold and the name of the articles in Bodoni MT, allowing for a clean display of the contents on the page. Above the photos, on the top left corner, is the magazines name, Florida’s Terrain. Directly below the magazine title will be “contents” in large fonts. The fonts used are linear and simple to read due to the professional atmosphere of the magazine.

The structure of my flat plan came from other nature and environmental magazines such as National Geographic and National Wildlife. I drew inspiration from the long article segments separated by advertisements in-between. Most of the magazines I researched had featured articles describing different habitats across the world. Additional pages in these articles were filled with continuous pages of photographs relative to the articles. The photographs length were 3-4 pages long and were then followed by a couple pages of advertisements. Due to this I added Photos of Native Wildlife in Sarasota, Full Page: Photos of Florida Marine Life , and Photos of Gators and Crocodiles . I saw that the magazines had independent sections on reefs, so I included an article called “The Dying Reefs”. I wanted to have different locations for the photoshoot of Sarasota's ecosystems. National preserves an d parks a llow for the easy access to the plant life in Sarasota. Since most of the photos were taken in the late afternoon, I had to stay aware of the sun reflection on the camera. adjustment had to be made with angles of the photos and the amount of time needed to locate areas to photograph. I visited Lido Shore frequently due to its close location and had prior knowledge of the sandy beach, rocky shore, and mangroves located adjacent to each other. Since the locations of the preserves were close to where I live, scheduling my photoshoot wasn’t difficult, I only had to finish taking photos before sundown because the parks close at that time. The next magazine featured was LWR Life: Sweet Savior, which the main title is located on the top and the subtitle resides on the bottom left corner in white. The cover picture features a beehive covered in bees, demonstrating the major topic of the magazine. The magazine has a circulation of approximately 15,000. The table of contents is separated between advertisements. On the left page the word “Contents” in large letters and three pictures aligned next to each other directly below it. The featured articles are the described below the photos. On the right page is a full-length advertisement of Bartlett Jewelers. The first article is introduced on page 18, with the title of the page, What the buzz is all about , in black and italicized. The written article is located on the second half of the page separated into three columns with two pictures located at the top half of the page next to each. The color scheme is made up of different hues of blues, matching the underwater theme of the magazine. The focus of the magazine is demonstrated by the centered photograph of a sea lion pup underwater. The table of contents shows a full-page photo of sea pups on a rock shore in the background, with the featured articles on the bottom left corner of the page. This issue focuses on saving sea lions, coral reefs and the earth. The issue is titled: The Power of Cute from the distributor Discover, which is a leading science and technology magazine for over 30 years, has a circulation of 550,000. The cover-page color scheme consists of blues, whites, and greys. One half of the page is a photo of a kitten facing forwards while the other half has the issues title, with the word “cute” in large soft blue letters. The table of contents comprises of an image of a 'black hole' taking up more than half the page. The issue is segmented into short and long articles. The short articles usually have the picture take up the whole page with a short article at the bottom half of the page. Like the article, Limited Lions , which has a full body shot of a mountain lion in the background and a study about mountain lions below.                                                      The global circulation of National Geographic is approximately 6.7 million, including U.S. circulation of 3.5 million. The cover page includes the title of the magazine, National Geographic , in the background located at the top of the page. The magazines subheading is in the foreground in the middle of the cover page. Each title is in plain white text, possible demonstrating the articles professionalism. The issue’s subheading, Last of Its Kind , connects with the cover picture, sporting a rhino laying on the ground with a man resting his forehead on the rhino. The color scheme composes of greens, greys and browns, displaying a neutral tone to the articles cover.                                                                                              The first magazine I researched was, National Wildlife: Behind the Wall , issued October 2018. Six million members of the National Wildlife Foundation receive the organization magazine. The title of the magazine is in large capitalize white font, taking up a fifth of the cover page.   The subtitle of the magazine is located below a photograph of a wild cat. The photo of the wild cat takes up most of the cover page in the center, emphasized by the dark background which it emerges from. Films are  imaginative way  to express ideas and themes in a fun and entertaining way. During the first quarter, films such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, All the President’s Men, and Newsroom, demonstrates the artistic prospective each film takes to engage the audience. In Ferris Bueller’s Day Off camera angles and narrative 4 th  wall break ing  was essential in the character development of Ferris Bueller. With the use of different camera shots and editing the director is able produce a revolutionary film. I would have the creative incentive to outline great scene using a variety of creative camera angles and shots . Although  editing effects like color corrections, jump cut and transitions would cause me the most trouble  when developing my film . Furthermore, guiding the actors into performing a scene in a certain way will be  challenging .  However, w riting the script would be a major strength , making the film a good fit for me...

After learning about films and magazines in the first quarter, the decision to decide between  them  was challenging. I decided that a magazine would be a better fit for me because I rather work independently tha n  with a group. Furthermore, I had more experience in creating magazines and taking photographs than filming. Based on my project, I had more ideas for the magazine than for the film.  Additionally, I would be able to demonstrate my skills of writing and photography with the magazine project.  The topic of my magazine will be on mangroves in Sarasota, discussing the importance of them in the environment and to the community. I have knowledge about this topic due to my environmental and marine classes. My target audience is the local community of Florida, or any environmental activist or organization.

Print journalism strives to provide accurate and informative to consumers. Television shows such as the Newsroom illustrates the importance of accurate facts. All the President’s Men also demonstrates the integrity of being a journalist. The reporters held truth at a high standard  when documenting  their findings . I  also  value facts above all ,  making research for my magazine easier to do; nevertheless, interviews for primary sources will be difficult. The wide variety of genres print journalism offers to readers allows for a broad topic to research. Topics like ethics, health and fitness, environment, politics, sports and fashion are just a few varieties within the print industry. Print journalism aims to capture viewers' attention. Photography is an art form that permit readers to connect emotionally with the magazine.
