The first magazine I researched was, National Wildlife: Behind the Wall, issued October 2018. Six million members of the National Wildlife Foundation receive the organization magazine. The title of the magazine is in large capitalize white font, taking up a fifth of the cover page. The subtitle of the magazine is located below a photograph of a wild cat. The photo of the wild cat takes up most of the cover page in the center, emphasized by the dark background which it emerges from. The magazine color scheme is mainly composed of browns, ambers, and greens, using the forward-facing wildcat to establish the environmental theme. Each article in this issue takes up a couple pages separated with advertisement between each segment. The first segment is called, Garden for Wildlife, with the article title How to Make Backyard Bats Feel at Home. The article is organized in three sections, with a photograph of a flying bat in the upper right corner of the page. Another segment is title Conservation on the top center of the page. The article title Control Pests Without Collateral Damage is shown directly below the segment title. The article focuses mainly on discouraging the use of pesticide due to the negative effects caused to other animals. On the bottom left, a photo of an owl is shown to provide an example of animal affected by pesticides. The table of contents photographs compose of wildlife on the top half of the page and features on the bottom half.
The first two advertisements were nature cruises and nature tours. On page 5, the full-page advertisement is of a gold jewelry store named Raffinato. The burgundy page catches viewers interest from the neutral colors used in the article issues. Based on the advertisement it can be assumed that the demographic is aimed for older retired viewers.
