Digital Distribution Research: Australian Geographic

Australian Geographic is one of the environmental magazines that I researched with similar target audience as my own magazine. Due to their focus on a specific geological area, learning their digital and traditional distribution technique will be very beneficial to my magazine’s success. One way they distribute their magazine online is through a website, https://www.australiangeographic.com, which offers a 28-day free trial period for any new visitors to their cite. The trial period shows their prospective customers the value of being a permanent subscription member. The website also includes newsletters that allows the magazine to distribute their published work through email and notifies the readers on new issues released. Australian Geographic’s website has a feature that separates their content and issues depending on age and topic, so if a viewer was interested in ‘science’, they can click a link that sends them directly to a magazine on that topic. This design is user friendly and keeps the intrigue of any new visitors to the cite. Furthermore, the website can sign customers up for a subscription directly. For only $70, the customer will receive 6 issues with a themed calendar and diary set. To sign-up, the user must provide their name, address, number and email; the subscription can also be renewed anytime. Australian Geographic also offers their issues through their app, which is available on iOS, Android, and other digital devices. The app is stylishly designed and convenient and provides notifications to newly released issues. Australian Geographic also distributes featured magazine articles and updates through their social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter. The magazine article is usually advertised with a short description of the issues content and website link in the bio. By advertising the magazine on social media, the magazine is increasing viewership of their issue.

All these techniques can be used to digitally distribute my magazine, Florida’s Terrain. I would like to advertise my new issues through my social media platforms and increase traffic towards the website. The use of social media, apps, and a website will attract a younger and more reliable audience, thus increasing the distribution of my magazine. Taking advantage of the technical benefits of offering online subscriptions will positively affect the ratings and readership of Florida’s Terrain.

Digital Distribution Plan

After researching both traditional distribution methods and digital distribution methods, I have decided that both are necessary for the success of my magazine. By creating a mobile app, website, and incorporating social media, I can effectively distribute my magazine to my target audience. For traditional distribution methods, I will hire a local distribution company to help distribute print copies of Florida’s Terrain. The distribution agency will deliver to local stores, waiting rooms, and supermarkets. Allowing my print copy to be placed on shelves of supermarkets increases their likelihood of being seen by a shopping customer. A distribution company such as,  South Florida Premium Distribution , will used to deliver the issues across Florida. For digital distribution methods, I would create an app called “Florida’s Terrain”, which would include separate sections of varying topics on wildlife for a broad age group. The app will notify users about updated articles and issu...

Traditional Distribution Research

When distributing my product, the use of traditional distribution model allows for an increase circulation and sales of my magazines print copies. The traditional model of distribution illustrates the relationship between the manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer and the consumer. The manufacturer mass-produces the printed copies of your magazines so that they are ready to be distributed to the costumers. Financial cost of packaging, mailing and shipping is handled at this stage of the distribution model. The wholesaler and retailer determine where to distribute the printed copies, places such as supermarkets, waiting rooms, and storefronts are considered prime places to sell printed magazine copies. The magazine company can also offer weekly subscriptions to costumers, which allows for printed copies to be delivered to their front door or mailbox. These outlets boost print magazine sales; however, the magazine company needs to consider hiring a distribution company to help manage and...
